Stories For Impact Digital Storytelling Workshop presented by:

Digital Storytellers invites you to the Stories For Impact Workshop which will help you produce captivating stories about your startup, organisation or cause using just the tools at your disposal - whether you have a smartphone, tablet or camera.

With the proliferation of digital communication, film and photography has established itself as the powerful way to cut through the noise and tell stories with impact. And with YouTube now the number two search engine in the world, it’s clear that audiences, prefer video and image over other forms of content.

But digital storytelling doesn’t have to be scary, high budget or intimidating. The Workshop will give you the skills to produce powerful content, using the resources at your disposal, without the need for expensive equipment.

We will get hands on with:

  • Pre-production: planning, choosing locations, the art of interviewing

  • Production: shooting cutaways, how to do lighting, sound, shooting and equipment (focusing on how to use smartphones, iPhones, iPads & DSLRS to create powerful content

  • Looking at the best of the best: We’ll look at inspirational case studies of others who have effectively used smartphones and tablets to create stunning stories

  • All participants will walk away with a copy of the 'Story Canvas' and the 'Production Canvas' to help you plan future stories.

All workshop attendees will also be invited to become part of the Impact Storytellers online community where you’ll have access to:

  • Ongoing mentorship and support from the Digital Storytellers team
  • support and collaboration from other social enterprises, nonprofits and creatives in the Stories for Impact community
  • Storytelling guides and resources
  • The opportunity to share and get feedback on the stories you create in a safe and collaborative environment

**FAQS**

What should I bring?

Bring along any video or sound recording equipment that you have access to and would like to use in the future. e.g. mobile phones, DSLR cameras, microphones. If you don't have any - that's fine! We'll bring along some spares for you to experiment with so that you can get a feel for how you might develop your kit in the future.

Will I be able to use the footage that I create during the workshop?

It is unlikely that this footage will be of use to you outside of the weekend bootcamp.

As you will discover during the workshop, storytelling is very much about capturing the right people and places to communicate a story. Within this 3 hour window, it is unlikely that you will have access to the people and places that will allow you to tell your story most impactfully.

Once you complete the workshop you WILL have been through the process of capturing great interviews and cutaways, and will have all the skills and knowledge you need to replicate this process with your own story and create a great film for public use.
